Glydways develops automated urban transit networks using on-demand autonomous electric vehicles on dedicated guideways, with pilot projects in five cities.
Glydways, founded in 2016 and headquartered in South San Francisco, California, develops and deploys high-capacity, automated urban transit networks. Its system provides personal, on-demand rides in autonomous electric vehicles running on dedicated guideways that bypass road traffic, operating 24 hours a day without fixed schedules. The company's engineering work spans autonomous vehicles, electric drivetrains, automated transit control and guideway infrastructure.
The company states that the Glydways System moves 10,000 people per hour per lane, roughly five times the throughput of traditional transit. Its network configuration, marketed as Flow Networks, is claimed to achieve a 90% reduction in capital costs compared with other transit modes. Glydways raised $170m in a Series C round to fund development and deployment.
Pilot projects are under way in five cities and regions: Atlanta, Georgia; Contra Costa County, California; San Jose, California; Abu Dhabi, UAE; and New York City. Public operations are scheduled to begin from 2026 onward. The company operates across the public transportation, urban transit, mobility-as-a-service and smart-cities sectors.
