Frequently asked questions

Every job is published on one of the board’s posting plans. A standard listing can be free, and featuring a listing is a paid placement on that same post — the plan cards below show both.

Both publish one job for the same number of days. The difference is the badge and where the post sits, not how many listings you get.

• Free posting

• Costs nothing to publish

Publishing on the board’s free plan does not charge you — the standard listing is what that plan includes.

• Published as a standard post

It goes on the board for the same number of days as any other listing, and appears in the job search like every other standard post.

• No badge and no placement boost

When jobs are ordered by relevance — the default — featured posts come first, so a standard post sits below them, and it carries no Featured badge.

• Featured posting

• Paid once, for that one post

Featuring comes from the plan you post with: a one-time payment for that job, not a subscription, and it never uses a second job post.

• Carries the Featured badge

The job card is labelled and highlighted in job search, on the browse pages and on the home page.

• Placed above the standard posts

While the feature runs it appears above every standard post in the searches it matches — and never in the ones it does not match.

The plans above are packages of job posts — not a monthly allowance, and not extra featured listings. Here is what each number on a card means.

• You buy job posts, not a month

The price on a card is what its job posts cost, not a monthly charge: a paid plan is bought once for the posts it includes. The listing length beside it is how long each published job stays on the board, so a package of three is three jobs — not one month of posting.

• How many jobs you can run at once

The number of posts on a card is how many job adverts you publish from that plan. They can all be on the board at the same time, each running for the listing length shown, and the per-job figure beside the price is that price divided across them.

• Featured is not a separate listing

Featuring changes how one of those posts appears — it never uses a second post or adds an extra advert. Where a card says every post is featured, every job you publish from it carries the Featured badge; where a card says nothing about it, they are standard listings.

• Posts you have not used yet

Publishing a job uses one post from the plan you choose. On your next job, the posting form offers any posts you still have on a package you already bought, beside the plans, so nothing you paid for goes unused.

Featured posts come with the job posting plans above. They are not one fixed slot at the top of the board that another employer can take from you — here is exactly how they behave.

• It is labelled, everywhere it appears

The job card carries a Featured badge and a highlighted border in job search, on the browse pages and on the homepage, so readers can see it is a paid placement.

• It sits above the standard posts

When jobs are ordered by Relevance — the default everywhere on the board — featured posts come first, above every standard post, and they stay there for as long as the feature runs. It is not a first-day boost.

• What happens when other employers feature theirs

Your post is not pushed down below the standard posts. New featured posts join the same featured group at the top, and inside that group the order follows how well each post matches the search. Every standard post stays below the whole group.

• It still has to match the search

Featuring never drops your job into results it has nothing to do with. Your post appears first among the jobs that match what someone searched for and the filters they set, and it is not shown in the ones it does not match.

• Sorting by Date unpins it

Relevance is the default order, so featuring only applies there. If a visitor switches the sort to Date, featured posts are no longer pinned and are ordered by date like everything else — the badge and highlight stay.

• How much featuring your plan includes

Each plan card above states its own allowance: a set number of featured posts, or every post on the plan. Where the plan lets you choose, ticking the featured box when you post uses one of them.

You message candidates on the board itself — one thread each, with no email addresses and no second inbox to keep an eye on.

• Talent access opens it

Messaging candidates comes with this board’s talent access. Each talent plan shows how many outreach messages it includes — unlimited where the card says so — and the Message button takes you to the plans if your account does not have access yet.

• One message opens the thread

Your first outreach message starts the conversation; everything after it stays in the same thread, so a candidate’s reply never uses another message. Wait for their reply before writing again.

• Replies arrive in Messages

Open Messages from your account menu for every conversation, what is unread, and who is waiting on you, with an email alert for replies you can switch on in your account settings.

Your company already has a page on the board. Here is how it collects your jobs, and how to take it over.

• The page is live before anyone claims it

Every job published under your company name shows up on a public company page — open roles, a salary summary and a link to your website. It is readable and findable, by job seekers and search engines, without an account.

• What links a job to your page

The company name on the posting is the link. Use exactly the same name as your profile on every job: a different spelling can create a second profile or need the board team to match it, and until it is matched those jobs do not appear on yours.

• How to claim it

Sign in, or create an employer account, then open the employer dashboard and search for your company. Choose Claim and the check starts — you can cancel it at any point with nothing lost.

• What we need from you

A work email address on your company’s own domain — we send a verification link to it. A domain match approves you automatically; if it does not match, the board team reviews your request.

• What you can do once it is yours

You own the profile: edit the logo, description, one-line summary, markets and social links, invite colleagues to help manage it, and keep every job on it current from the dashboard.

• Featuring your jobs

Featuring comes from the plan you post with: each plan card shows its own allowance, and where the plan leaves the choice to you, you tick “Feature this listing” on the posting form to use one. What the feature does to your placement is set out above.

• Browse and search every remote job

Every listing on the board is public — read the job posts, filter by role and place, and apply.

• One weekly email alert, no account needed

Give us your email once and we send a weekly digest of the roles that match that search. No account needed, and you can unsubscribe any time.

This is the alert you manage in your account, separate from the free weekly email above.

• Personalized job matches

We recommend roles from your profile — not just the words you searched for.

• Alerts you manage in your account

Create, edit and pause alerts with your own roles, places and how often — and get matching jobs by email.

Your profile is what we match jobs against, so the more of it you fill in, the better the roles you see.

• Start with your resume

Upload your resume once and we fill in your profile from it — the quickest way to build one, with no long form to type out.

• Better matches as your profile grows

Recommendations come from your profile, not just a search box, so every skill and job you add sharpens what we suggest.

• You decide who can see it

Public profiles can be found by hiring teams and members, signed-in members only keeps yours inside the member area, and hidden keeps it off lists and searches. Even hidden, your profile still brings you job matches.

When a company wants to talk, they message you on the board instead of asking for your email address.

• Replying costs nothing

Reading and answering a message is free. A job seeker plan adds matches and the alerts you manage in your account, never conversations.

• One inbox, and your rules

Read and reply from Messages in your account menu, archive a thread, choose whether new messages also email you, and block or report a sender at any time.

No. Every job is free to read and free to apply for. A job-seeker plan adds matching and the alerts you manage in your account; the weekly email digest works without one.

Leave your email in any alert box and we send a weekly digest of matching roles. With a free account you manage those alerts yourself — edit, pause or delete them whenever you like.

Open the job and use the apply button at the top: some roles take your application on the board, with an optional resume upload, and others send you to the employer’s own site.

Messaging is how you and a company talk on Shred Shark. It happens on the board rather than by email, so no one has to hand over an address.

• Companies start the conversation

A hiring team messages a job seeker from the candidate directory when they want to talk. If that is you, you reply in the same thread — job seekers do not message companies or each other first.

• Every conversation lives in Messages

Open Messages from your account menu to read and reply on any device. A count by the message icon shows what is unread while you browse, and you can archive a thread you are finished with.

• Email alerts you can turn off

Your account settings decide whether a new message also emails you. Either way the message waits in your inbox, so switching email off never loses a conversation.

• Block, report and verify

Blocking someone stops them messaging you again, and reporting a message blocks the sender too. Messages only come from accounts with a verified email address.
