Skydio, founded in 2014 and based in San Mateo, California, builds AI-powered autonomous drones for public safety, government, military, utilities and enterprise customers, with over 60,000 units delivered.
Skydio is an American drone manufacturer and developer of autonomous flight technology. Founded in 2014 by researchers from MIT, the company designs unmanned aerial vehicles that use artificial intelligence to fly without a pilot at the controls. It is headquartered in San Mateo, California, and sells to public safety agencies, government and military customers, utilities and enterprise users in the United States and international markets.
The company's aircraft are used for a range of remote operations. These include Drone as First Responder programmes, in which emergency services dispatch an autonomous drone to an incident; automated inspection of assets such as power infrastructure; and site security for government and corporate facilities. More than 60,000 drones have been delivered, and customers have logged over 4.6m flights. Annual revenue is in the nine figures.
Skydio is venture-backed, with investors including Andreessen Horowitz, NVIDIA and IVP. It describes its engineering culture as AI-first and emphasises expansion of its domestic manufacturing base. The stated purpose of its technology is to make dangerous work safer and faster, and to sustain American capability in drone production.
