Motional develops SAE Level 4 autonomous vehicles for ride-hailing and delivery, partnering with platforms such as Lyft, Via and Uber Eats to integrate driverless vehicles into transport networks.

Motional develops SAE Level 4 autonomous vehicles for ride-hailing and delivery services, working with major platforms to integrate driverless vehicles into real-world transportation networks. Founded in 2020 as a joint venture backed by Hyundai Motor Group and Aptiv, the company draws on decades of combined autonomous-vehicle experience, with a team that traces its lineage to some of the earliest pioneers in the field. Its stated mission is to make driverless vehicles safe, reliable and accessible, with a particular emphasis on road safety and the elimination of human error.

The company's technology spans autonomous vehicles, robotics, machine learning and perception and safety systems. Its flagship platform, the IONIQ 5 robotaxi, was designed from the ground up for driverless operation. Motional has also been involved in the world's first robotaxi pilot, in Singapore.

In commercial deployment, Motional has completed over 100,000 rides in Las Vegas through a Level 4 ride-hailing service integrated with partners including Lyft and Via. A separate delivery service, integrated with platforms such as Uber Eats, applies the same driverless technology to last-mile logistics. The company operates in the United States, with activity in Las Vegas and Singapore, and serves the ride-hailing, delivery, transportation, automotive and autonomous mobility sectors.

Motional's work is carried out by cross-functional teams of engineers, researchers and operators, covering domains such as machine learning, robotics and safety systems alongside commercial and operational functions.
