Under Armour
Under Armour designs and sells athletic apparel, footwear and accessories, together with performance and recovery technologies and digital training tools for athletes.
Under Armour is a global performance sports brand that designs and sells athletic apparel, footwear and accessories engineered to keep athletes cool, dry and focused. Founded in 1996 by Kevin Plank, who started by making moisture-wicking T-shirts in his grandmother's basement, the company is headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland. It employs roughly 16,000 people and operates in more than 140 countries, with over 445 brand and factory houses worldwide.
Its engineering work spans several domains: moisture-wicking fabric technology and performance apparel, footwear technology, recovery technology, digital training tools and experiences, and sustainable or regenerative materials. Proprietary platforms include HOVR, a cushioning technology used in its athletic shoes; Flow, a footwear and athletic technology platform; and UA Recover, recovery-focused gear. Performance apparel remains the originating product line, tracing back to the 1996 T-shirt designed to keep athletes cool and dry. Digital products extend the range by helping athletes train, compete and recover.
The company states its mission as making all athletes better, and describes an athlete-centred philosophy that places the athlete at the centre of its work. Its published core values are Love Athletes, Celebrate the Wins, Stand for Equality, Act Sustainably and Fight On Together. Sustainability commitments include a partnership with UNLESS on regenerative sportswear, alongside a stated goal of creating opportunities for millions of young people to engage in sport by 2030.
