DescriptionSUMMARY:
Oversee the strength and conditioning program for student-athletes at NMHU by providing leadership and programing in the athletic weight room.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide leadership in the athletic weight room
- Meet with sport coaches to assess needs and priorities, and then implement a diversified strength and conditioning program for NMHU athletic teams that include cardiovascular demands, flexibility/stretching programs, etc. based on determined needs, time, and facility limitations.
- Create individual instruction on proper exercise techniques and safe a proper use of equipment for student-athletes
- Coordinate and monitor all team conditioning activities for the Athletic Department.
- Provide instruction on weight room equipment
- Ensure all weight room equipment is working properly and maintained properly
- Ensure the weight room is cleaned and kept up as a safe environment
- Coordinate the training schedule between coaches and facility availability
- Instruct athletes on injury prevention, rehabilitation, and performance enhancement
- Facilitate a collaborative relationship with sports medicine and coordinate student athlete preventative care and rehab
- Assists with rehabilitation of injured athletes
- Occasional travel with teams as needed
- Educate student-athletes regarding nutrition and supplementation
- Administer testing protocols and evaluations of student-athletes on a routine bases
- Assist with on campus recruiting of prospective student-athletes
- Ensure adherence with established institutional compliance, rules, policies and procedural manuals as well as ethical standards of behavior
- Ensure strict adherence to all NCAA by-laws and conference regulations
- Perform miscellaneous job related duties as assigned
- Maintain regular attendance
QualificationsMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in any field
Certification through a nationally recognized organization
Experience:
One (1) year experience working as a Strength and Conditioning Coach
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience:
- Collegiate or professional strength training experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
Knowledge of applicable team or individual sports playing rules
- Knowledge of NCAA practice, conditioning, and weight training regulations
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
- Knowledge of NCAA and RMAC game environment rules and regulations
- Ability to foster a cooperative work environment
- Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures
- Organizing and coordinating skills
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Ability to coordinate with all coaching staffs, sports medicine and administration timely and effective athletic schedules and game management procedures
