Job Description:
Position Overview
The Senior Mechanical Engineer reports to the Technical Manager and provides critical technical support to the Operations team. You will play a vital role in ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and optimal performance of the facility's mechanical infrastructure through design expertise, maintenance optimization, and technical problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Maintenance & Operations
- Manage critical technical maintenance activities associated with all mechanical systems to reduce operational risk in accordance with the Maintenance Operating Procedure (MOP)
- Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Emergency Operating Procedures (EOP), and MOP for all critical facility equipment and activities
- Coordinate maintenance activities across multiple mechanical disciplines including HVAC, fire protection, and plumbing systems
Design & Construction Support
- Provide technical support during the construction phase, responding to RFIs (Requests for Information) and addressing design and installation issues
- Coordinate with multiple disciplines to ensure projects are delivered within budget and on schedule
- Support and manage the mechanical team including HVAC, fire protection, and plumbing functions
Incident Management & Analysis
- Work with the Operations team on incident investigation, follow-up actions, and submission of interim and final reports to management
- Execute Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for problem management to improve system uptime and productivity
Performance Analysis & Optimization
- Identify parameters in Building Management System (BMS) and Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) system data and conduct data analysis to identify improvement opportunities
- Analyze and evaluate mechanical system performance, identifying areas for improvement and recommending equipment upgrades
- Analyze energy usage, identifying opportunities for optimization and cost savings
- Conduct capacity tracking and utilization trending with proactive monitoring and optimization initiatives
Sustainability & Compliance
- Support Green Building certification requirements and ensure mechanical systems maintain compliance with sustainability standards
- Keep abreast of changes in codes and technologies appropriate to mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection disciplines
- Support and coordinate major activities including annual shutdowns, equipment overhauls, drills, tabletop exercises, and equipment failure simulations
Technology & Innovation
- Evaluate and recommend new technologies and equipment to enhance system performance and reduce operational costs
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical and electrical engineers to ensure seamless system integration
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years of working experience in data center or critical infrastructure industries (such as refinery, oil and gas, or semiconductor)
Technical Skills
- Excellent problem-solving and root cause analysis capabilities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, BMS, CMMS/DCIM, ERP systems, and Microsoft BI tools
- Strong ability to articulate and explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
