The role of a paramedic is to provide safe and efficient response, treatment, and transportation of all persons requesting or requiring emergent or non-emergent medical services. In addition to providing treatment onsite or during ambulance transportation in trauma, cardiac, or respiratory emergencies, medics also perform complex prehospital care including inserting IV lines, administering medications, and monitoring electrocardiograms (EKGs).
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver quality patient care in accordance with clinical policies, statewide protocol, and standards of care
- Attend to patients in a courteous and professional manner
- Operate the ambulance in accordance with safety rules and regulations; company policies; federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and statutes.
- Complete an ambulance and medical equipment checklist at the beginning of each assigned shift. Inspect and clean the assigned ambulance and all medical equipment to ensure compliance with minimum stock requirements and proper function.
- Complete and submit all documentation/paperwork PCR requirements daily.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external individuals, including agencies, physicians, and other healthcare providers at all times.
- Be knowledgeable of and comply with all company policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Perform daily housekeeping duties at assigned bases of operation
- Maintains knowledge of and complies with all company policies, procedures, and guidelines at all times.
- Must maintain a reliable attendance and reports as scheduled and required
- Completes other duties as requested and assigned
Education:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Associate degree or higher preferred
Licensure, Certification, Registration:
- Current valid driver’s license
- Current Massachusetts Paramedic Certification
- National Registry Paramedic Certification
- Current CPR and ACLS Certification
Experience:
- Minimum of 1 year of prior working EMT B or A experience required
- Experience with computer systems required, including web-based applications and some Microsoft Office applications preferred.

Requirements:
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Ability to meet the essential duties and physical, mental and sensory requirements of the position at all times.
- Comply with UDS drug screening at any and all times
- Satisfactory background check and MA CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information), verification required annually.
- Verification of an acceptable motor vehicle driving record, verification required annually.

- Ability to lift and maneuver 125+ pounds with assistance and without difficulty
- Ability to ascend/descend stairs repeatedly and the ability to lift and carry 125+ pounds up and down stairs

This job requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid and dry conditions. The employee is frequently required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazardous materials.
