The Opportunity

Mipac is seeking an experienced Lead Control Systems Engineer to take technical ownership of complex international control systems projects, including overseas site work during FATs, commissioning and critical project delivery phases.

This role suits senior engineers who want responsibility, are comfortable operating under pressure, and actively enjoy leading technical delivery in ambiguous, high‑stakes environments. It is not a FIFO role, but it does require a genuine willingness to undertake extended international site assignments (up to 6 weeks at a time).

You will operate as a trusted technical authority, representing Mipac professionally with clients, vendors and site teams, while also contributing to the development of engineering capability within project teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as technical authority for PLC, SCADA and DCS design, configuration, integration and commissioning across international projects.
  • Lead and represent Mipac during client meetings, FATs, commissioning and site delivery, often in high‑pressure or ambiguous environments.
  • Provide clear and confident technical leadership, applying sound judgement to resolve technical issues while maintaining respectful, constructive relationships with employees, clients, vendors and site teams.
  • Approach client engagements with a service‑focused mindset, prioritising practical, long term solutions over purely transactional delivery.
  • Provide clear, professional advice to clients, maintaining strong working relationships built on trust.
  • Mentor and develop engineers, building and increasing capability.
  • Model calm, professional leadership, recognising the influence senior engineers have on team capability and behaviour.
  • Ensure design, configuration, FAT, commissioning and site activities align with Mipac and client technical standards, governance requirements and agreed delivery approaches.

About You

You are an experienced Engineer who:

  • Demonstrates experience delivering industrial control systems in complex environments.
  • Brings deep hands‑on experience across PLC and SCADA platforms (Rockwell, Siemens, Yokogawa, Schneider or similar).
  • Has led or played key roles in FATs, commissioning and site delivery, ideally including international or remote sites.
  • Is comfortable working in situations with ambiguity, competing priorities and operational pressure.
  • Can resolve technical issues while remaining measured, respectful and solutions‑focused.
  • Sees engineering as a professional service, taking responsibility not just for technical correctness but for how solutions land with clients and operators long term.
  • Enjoys developing other engineers, sharing your knowledge to improve how they work and the work they produce.
  • Holds Australian working rights and is able to travel internationally.
  • RPEQ, CPEng or willingness to pursue registration
  • Experience in mining, energy or heavy industrial projects

This role is suited to engineers who want accountability, challenge and influence and who take pride in delivering outcomes professionally, respectfully and under pressure.

Why Mipac

At Mipac, senior engineers work alongside other deeply experienced specialists across multiple projects and delivery environments. This allows you to stay technically sharp, compare approaches, and share lessons that ultimately improve outcomes for clients operating complex, high‑risk facilities.

You will be trusted to exercise judgement, supported by peers, and given the opportunity to lead meaningful work, without being tied to a single asset or operating in isolation.
