Job Summary:

As the Shop Heavy-Duty Mechanic, you are responsible for performing skilled tasks in the mechanical repair and maintenance of our company fleet. Working remotely and independently, you will have the ability to troubleshoot major and minor mechanical problems. Work assignments will be received in the form of oral or written work orders, but you are expected to determine the nature and extent of repairs needed. Primarily, you work with the shop foreman, shop staff, and dispatch with little direct daily supervision.

Heavy-Duty Mechanic – Journeyperson can earn up to $7,000 in Bonuses in Your First Year!

Compensation Package:

  • Starting wage for Journeyperson: $50.00/hour

  5. Other relevant certifications

Your Schedule:

  • Our mechanics are on Monday- Friday (8:00 am-4:30 pm) (on call required)

What you will do day-to-day:

  • Diagnose defects in the fleet and provide service for the company fleet.
  • Provide routine maintenance as well as possible engine overhauls.
  • Check equipment for proper performance and inspect equipment to detect faults/ malfunctions.
  • Repair and adjust hydraulic pumps, safety valves, and any other mechanical components.
  • Diagnose any faults or malfunctions using computerized and other testing equipment to determine the extent of repair that is required.
  • Inspect, repair, and adjust gasoline and diesel-powered units.
  • Perform incidental welding operations on equipment. (If qualified)
  • Demonstrate continuous efforts to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality customer service.
  • Perform mechanical repairs on equipment in the shop and on road calls when required.
  • Installation of new and added-on equipment.
  • Electrical and hydraulic troubleshooting and diagnostics.
  • Repair cooling and lubrication systems.
  • Repair mechanical transmissions, drivetrains, and final drives.
  • Repair cable-operated working attachments, winches, compressors, pumps, electric generators, etc.
  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance.
  • Clean, lubricate, and perform other maintenance work.
  • Other related duties as required or assigned.
  • On-call hours and overtime may be required.

What you need to succeed:

  • 3+ years’ experience as a Journeyperson Heavy-Duty Mechanic.
  • 5-year clean driver’s abstract required.
  • Red Seal Journeyperson Heavy-Duty Mechanic Certification required.
  • A High School Diploma or GED is an asset.
  • Must have basic own tools.
  • B620 experience is an asset.
  • A CVIP license is an asset.

Highly Valued Additional Experience/Skills/Education:

  • Professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, and e-mail.
