Overview
A growing structural and miscellaneous steel fabrication company is seeking an experienced Fitter/Welder to join its fabrication shop in Arizona. The Role
The Fitter/Welder will be responsible for fitting, laying out, and welding structural steel components according to shop drawings and welding specifications. Success in this role means producing high-quality welds, maintaining strong productivity standards, and ensuring all work aligns with safety and quality requirements.
This role works closely with fabrication shop teams to ensure accurate fit-up, proper welding procedures, and efficient production of structural steel components.
Responsibilities
- Perform layout and fit-up of structural steel components according to shop drawings.
- Interpret fabrication drawings and plans to ensure accurate assembly.
- Set up welding equipment and adjust machine settings as required during welding operations.
- Execute welds in accordance with AWS D1.1 welding standards.
- Inspect fit-up for full penetration welds and ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Maintain clean welds free from inclusions, undercut, or porosity.
- Grind, bevel, and clean weld areas as required to prepare materials for fabrication.
- Maintain welding equipment and ensure tools are properly stored and maintained.
Requirements
- 3–5 years of experience in structural steel fitting, layout, and welding.
- Experience with Flux Cored welding processes.
- Ability to read and interpret shop drawings and fabrication plans.
- Strong focus on safety and adherence to shop procedures.
- Ability to pass in-shop layout and fit-up testing.
- Must provide personal welding gear for weld testing (hood, gloves, jacket).
- Professional working proficiency in English.
- Ability to pass background check and drug screening.
Nice to Have
- Experience with MIG welding using solid core gas-shielded wire.
- Experience welding mild steel over 1.5" thickness.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
Salary
Depending on experience, with advancement opportunities following the first 90 days.
Location
Arizona, Full-time fabrication shop role (Monday–Friday).
