Introduction

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Electrician that has arisen in the Maintenance Department at BBF Safety Group in Pinetown. Purpose of the job is to increase machine availability for production by maintaining, repairing, and improving machinery in the factories and to ensure that work is in accordance with relevant codes. The Electrician will report to the Maintenance Foreman and will have amongst others, the following duties and responsibilities:

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide efficient Electrical support service.
  • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers or other components.
  • Repair or replace wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters and oscilloscopes to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
  • Must be able to read and follow electrical drawings.
  • Must be able to understand and fault find PLC`s.
  • Use a variety of tools and equipment such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools and testing equipment including oscilloscopes, ammeters and test lamps.
  • Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures based on job specifications and local codes.
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment and components to identify hazards, defects and the need for adjustment or repair.
  • Ensure compliance with codes, OHS ACT and All relevant local and international codes and best practices.
  • Direct and train workers to install, maintain or repair electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures.
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus and components using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
  • Willing to work overtime when necessary and standby rota system.
  • Must have own transport.

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • Min N4 qualification.
  • Successful completion of a red seal Electrical trade test.
  • Must have a min of 4 years’ experience as a trade tested Electrician.
  • Position subject to a 3-month probation period.
  • Wireman’s license (advantage).

Technical knowledge of the control panels, drives, motors and sensors
