Assistant Volleyball Coach – Job Description

Position Summary:
The Assistant Volleyball Coach supports the Head Coach in all aspects of the volleyball program, including player development, practice planning, game execution, and fostering a positive team culture. This position plays a key role in building a cohesive, competitive, and development-focused program across all levels.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Head Coach in planning and conducting practices, training sessions, and team activities
  • Provide instruction on fundamental and advanced volleyball skills, including serving, passing, setting, hitting, and defensive systems
  • Support game-day preparation, including scouting, lineup development, and in-game adjustments
  • Help foster a positive, competitive, and team-first culture aligned with the program’s values
  • Build strong relationships with student-athletes while promoting accountability, discipline, and sportsmanship
  • Assist with player development by providing consistent feedback and evaluating performance
  • Supervise student-athletes during practices, competitions, travel, and team events
  • Communicate effectively with players, parents, and coaching staff regarding schedules, expectations, and program updates
  • Collaborate with coaching staff to ensure alignment across all program levels (freshman, sophomore, JV, varsity)
  • Assist with program operations such as equipment management, uniforms, and facility setup/teardown
  • Support off-season training, camps, and program development initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with school, district, and state athletic association policies and guidelines
  • Promote academic success and support student-athlete eligibility standards
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Prior volleyball playing and/or coaching experience preferred
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a coaching staff
  • Passion for teaching, mentoring, and developing student-athletes
  • Availability for practices, matches, and off-season/summer programming
