About the Organization: 

The Police Athletic League (or PAL) is New York City’s largest independent youth development organization. We operate diverse programs from Head Start, Day Car and Universal Pre-K programs; to elementary and middle school after-school programs, summer day camps and summer Playstreets. We run evening teen centers and college readiness programs, as well as youth employment and juvenile justice programs. In its over a century of service, PAL is continuing its evolution and remains a vibrant and vital New York City institution.  

 

Position Summary: 

The Assistant Baseball League Coach supports the Head Coach in delivering a high-quality middle school baseball program. This role assists with practices, games, and team activities while mentoring adolescent players and promoting teamwork, skill development, and good sportsmanship in a positive, inclusive environment. 

The ideal candidate enjoys working with middle school–aged youth, understands the fundamentals of baseball, and is eager to support player development and team success. 

Pay & Commitment:  

  • $18.00 per hour.  

  • Availability to work consistently for the full 21-week season 

  • 4-hour shifts, 2 days per week 

Where: Armory Center - Police Athletic League, Inc.

Core Responsibilities 

Coaching Support & Player Development 

  • Assist the Head Coach during practices and games 

  • Support instruction of baseball fundamentals and skill development 

  • Provide encouragement and positive reinforcement to players 

  • Model appropriate behavior, teamwork, and sportsmanship 

Team & Program Support 

  • Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and respectful team environment 

  • Supervise players during drills, transitions, and downtime 

  • Assist with setup, breakdown, and care of equipment 

  • Communicate observations or concerns to the Head Coach 

Safety & Operations 

  • Follow program policies and safety guidelines 

  • Support participant supervision and on-field organization 

  • Address minor issues appropriately and escalate as needed 



Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 

  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in coaching baseball, preferably with youth or adolescents 

  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills 

  • Ability to manage groups of adolescents in an active setting 

  • Commitment to youth development, inclusion, and positive behavior management 

Skills Needed:  

  • Possess a desire to work directly with children.  

  • Open to feedback with a desire to grow professionally.  

  • Responsible, friendly, enthusiastic, patient, and actively engaged.  

  • Able to follow directions and adhere to all policies and procedures.  

  • Able to work collaboratively in a team environment.  

 

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:  

  • Ability to engage in program activities in an active outdoor or indoor environment 

  • Ability to move about the field or facility as needed to support participants and program operations 

  • Ability to handle and manage baseball equipment with or without reasonable accommodation
