Description

Atlanta Fire Rescue Department Summer Youth Program

Must be at least 16 years old of age and current High School student, or recently graduated student from 2025 – 2026 school calendar year

Position open until filled. 

Location: Atlanta Public Safety Headquarters / Atlanta Public Safety Training Center
Duration: 8 Weeks Salary - $15.00/hr.

Work Hours: Must be able to commit to working from Monday – Friday | hours 8:30am - 4:00pm
 

General Description and Classification Standards

The individual(s) selected for this rewarding experience will receive on-the-job and situational training for public service/safety careers in Fire including customer service, community engagement, and operations support.

Successful job candidates will gain exposure to other jobs and careers in public service/safety through exploratory sessions with department leaders as well as gain the opportunity to develop work/life skills.

Supervision Received

Works under direct supervision and follows standardized procedures and written instructions to accomplish assigned tasks.



Responsibilities

Ideal candidates will have the preferred qualifications: 

  • A desire to work and learn about the Atlanta Fire Rescue department with a quality and positive experience. Interest in careers in the Fire Department (recruitment & background, customer service, operations, public administration, emergency medical services, bike team and maintenance). 
  • Inclination to build upon and improve interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • Willingness to learn in a professional work environment and receive feedback to improve performance. 
  • An understanding of the value of teamwork and how to contribute to accomplish team goals. 
  • Initiative to complete assigned projects and tasks 
  • May performed other duties as assigned. 

 

The Atlanta Fire Rescue Department environment is safety sensitive and requires that all applicants undergo a drug screen and fingerprinting background check.

  • Must attend or have attended Atlanta Public Schools 
  • Must be interested in being a Firefighter 
  • Must be able to commit to the entirety of the program

Work Environment 

Required physical, lifting, and sensory capabilities are requirements to perform the job successfully. Typical environmental conditions associated with job. 

Lifting Requirements: Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
