RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions
- Lifeguard Responsibilities:
- Prevent accidents and injuries by applying lifeguarding and water safety skills.
- Respond promptly to emergencies using visual and audio surveillance techniques.
- Maintain focus and concentration while standing for long periods, ensuring safety at all times.
- Identify potential emergencies through both visual and auditory cues and act swiftly to address them.
- Provide first aid or assistance within the scope of certified training and in accordance with Rocket Center policies and procedures.
- Accurately report and document incidents, accidents, attendance, maintenance needs, and time worked.
- Ensure reliable transportation to and from the work location.
- Conduct regular surveys of the swimming facility and check staff information in the office.
- Wear the required uniform while on duty at all times.
- Maintain the general cleanliness and safety of the pool area and surrounding environment.
- Keep lifesaving and first aid equipment in readiness, ensuring it's available for use at all times.
- Report any conditions requiring attention to the Water Training Facilities Manager.
- Enforce pool rules and policies courteously, using appropriate discipline when necessary.
- Reflect a positive and professional image of the Rocket Center to guests.
- Actively engage in in-service training and staff meetings.
- Keep all required job-related certifications current and up to date.
- Perform light to moderate maintenance tasks around the pool area as needed, when no swimmers are present or during breaks.
- Take on additional responsibilities as required to ensure the safety and success of the facility operations.
- Instructor Responsibilities:
- Lead and conduct lifeguard training courses in line with established curriculum and guidelines.
- Teach candidates water rescue techniques, CPR, first aid, and emergency response procedures.
- Demonstrate lifeguarding skills and provide hands-on training in various aquatic environments, such as pools, beaches, and water parks.
- Assess candidates through written exams, practical tests, and simulated rescue scenarios to evaluate their readiness for certification.
- Provide constructive feedback to lifeguard candidates, guiding them in improving their skills to meet certification standards.
- Maintain detailed records of training sessions, certifications, and participant progress.
- Stay up to date with the latest lifeguarding standards, techniques, and regulations to ensure the training program's relevance and effectiveness.
- Collaborate with other instructors and aquatic staff to enhance training programs and foster a safety-conscious culture.
- Assist with the recruitment and hiring of lifeguard candidates when necessary.
- Participate in ongoing professional development to improve teaching skills and knowledge in lifeguarding and aquatic safety.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Yes
Level of Supervision: This position involves supervising the training and certification of lifeguards, ensuring they are equipped with the skills to respond effectively to aquatic emergencies. Responsibilities include leading training sessions on water rescue, CPR, and first aid, evaluating lifeguard candidates through assessments, and providing feedback to enhance their skills. The role also involves monitoring the performance and readiness of lifeguard staff, ensuring compliance with safety protocols, and addressing any performance issues. Additionally, the position includes collaborating with other instructors to improve training programs, assisting with lifeguard recruitment, and overseeing the maintenance of the aquatic facility and lifesaving equipment to ensure a safe environment for both staff and guests.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1 year of post-secondary education
Required Experience
- Current lifeguard and Lifeguard Instructor certification (e.g., American Red Cross).
- CPR/AED and First Aid Instructor certifications
- Proven lifeguard experience with strong knowledge of water safety, rescue techniques, and the ability to demonstrate lifeguard skills.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills for instructing, motivating, and providing feedback to lifeguard candidates.
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to diverse learning styles, exercise sound judgment in high-pressure situations.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to walk and climb to access equipment. Must be capable of safely lifting and supporting an adult from the water during emergency situations. The role also demands bending, kneeling, and reaching to maintain equipment, along with the use of sight, wrist movements, and tactile sensitivity to perform lifesaving duties. Effective communication is essential, requiring the ability to talk and listen to interact with employees and guests.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Environmental Factors
The position involves working in an outdoor environment, often in hot summer temperatures (with a heat index not exceeding 105°F). Additionally, the role includes extensive outdoor work, with a focus on interacting with small children during activities.
Expected Hours of Work
This position require flexibility to accommodate evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
