Slate builds a radically simple, customizable all-electric pickup truck, plus an SUV-like configuration, engineered and manufactured in the United States.
Slate is developing a radically simple, all-electric pickup truck, the Slate Truck, built around a modular and highly configurable design. Sold as a "blank Slate" with a low base price, the vehicle is offered without expensive trim packages: customers hand-pick the additions they want and can continue to reconfigure the vehicle over time, adding accessories, swapping colours or changing body types. An SUV-like configuration is offered as an alternative body format alongside the truck setup.
Technical work spans electric vehicle engineering, automotive design, vehicle customization and modular design, and manufacturing engineering. The product philosophy places a premium on radical simplicity in design and on an affordable, value-oriented entry point in the EV market, with the vehicle conceived as never being fully "finished" once delivered.
Geographically, the company operates across the United States, with design in California, design and engineering in Michigan, and assembly in the Midwest. Slate states an American manufacturing ethos: an American vehicle should be engineered and manufactured in America.
