Planet Labs PBC
Planet Labs PBC operates 200+ imaging satellites that photograph Earth's landmass daily and sells the imagery and analytics to governments, businesses and researchers.
Planet Labs PBC designs, builds and operates imaging satellites, and sells the resulting data and analytics. Founded in 2010, the company runs the largest constellation of imaging satellites in history: more than 200 spacecraft in orbit, collecting over 350 million square kilometres of imagery a day, with the stated aim of imaging all of Earth's landmass every day. The company is incorporated as a Public Benefit Corporation.
Its products comprise the satellite constellation itself and a suite of high-frequency data and analytics offerings. Customers include governments, businesses and researchers, who use the data to monitor agriculture, track climate change, respond to disasters and document other forms of global change. Technical work spans satellite imaging, space systems, remote sensing, geospatial analytics and data analytics.
Planet Labs PBC has six offices, in San Francisco, Berlin, Washington D.C., Haarlem, Ljubljana and Graz, alongside remote colleagues worldwide. Its team is described as multidisciplinary, covering rocket scientists, software engineers, creatives and business strategists. The company states a mission of using space to help life on Earth and frames its work around hard problems and measurable daily impact.
