Philo operates a live television streaming service in the United States, delivering more than 70 top-rated channels, unlimited DVR and on-demand content to millions of subscribers at $28–$33 per month. The company is headquartered in San Francisco, with additional offices in New York and Cambridge, Massachusetts. It was founded to serve the college market before expanding nationwide, and its name derives from Philo T. Farnsworth, the inventor of electronic television.

Engineering work at Philo spans cloud delivery technology and streaming video (OTT) delivery, DVR and video storage, on-demand content delivery, and native application development. The service is distributed through hand-crafted native apps for web browsers, iOS, Apple TV, Android devices, FireTV, Roku, Samsung, Vizio and LG devices. The platform also carries premium libraries, including the entire AMC+ library, HBO Max Basic with Ads and discovery+.

Philo states a mission to build a better way to watch TV and describes its guiding philosophy as "people before profits".
