Macmillan Publishers is a global publishing organisation founded in 1843, with more than 180 years of continuous operation. It publishes across adult fiction, nonfiction, children's books, academic works, educational materials and audio, and operates through eight U.S. publishing divisions: Celadon Books, Farrar, Straus and Giroux, Flatiron Books, Henry Holt, Macmillan Audio, Macmillan Children's Publishing Group, The St. Martin's Publishing Group and Tor Publishing Group. The company has a global presence and forms part of the Holtzbrinck publishing group.

Technical work at Macmillan concentrates on three areas: artificial intelligence, the modernisation of publishing systems, and the application of responsible AI across the publishing lifecycle. The company states that it is investing in the responsible and ethical use of artificial intelligence, and positions its technology efforts within a wider commitment to inclusion, respect and trust, and sustainability.

Authors published by the house have received honours including the Nobel Prize, the Man Booker Prize, the Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Award, the Newbery Medal and the Caldecott Medal. The imprint list spans literary fiction, trade nonfiction, genre publishing through Tor Publishing Group, children's literature and audio production, giving engineering and product work a broad range of publishing contexts to support.
