Dairyland Power Cooperative is a generation and transmission (G&T) cooperative founded in December 1941 and headquartered in La Crosse, Wisconsin. It supplies wholesale electricity and related services to 24 electric distribution cooperatives and 17 municipal utilities across a four-state territory covering Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa and Illinois. The cooperative employs approximately 550 people and has been in operation for more than eight decades.
Its operations span generation, transmission and wholesale supply. The generating portfolio draws on six resource types - coal, natural gas, solar, wind, hydro and biogas. Electricity is delivered over nearly 3,200 miles of high-voltage transmission lines and through 300 substations within a 44,500 square mile service area that extends across 62 counties and reaches more than half a million end consumers. Technical work therefore covers power generation, transmission, grid infrastructure and substation operations, and renewable as well as fossil-fuel assets.
Dairyland Power Cooperative is a Touchstone Energy Cooperative and operates under the seven cooperative principles. It states four core values: innovation, accountability, integrity and commitment to community. The cooperative describes its priorities as safe, reliable, sustainable and affordable electricity, the needs of member-consumers, and progress toward a cleaner energy future.
