Founded in 1979, with roots in the western United States, the company now operates across all 50 states and employs 4,176 people.

Its principal business, locum tenens staffing, places physicians, advanced practice providers and allied health professionals in temporary assignments with healthcare facilities; the company claims a 31% share of locum tenens revenue. Permanent staffing covers the same professional categories on a permanent basis. Technology services supply workforce-delivery tooling, while advisory services provide guidance to healthcare organisations. The company reports that its work supports more than 20m patients a year.
