Cartrack

Cartrack is the operating business of Karooooo, a global technology company that supplies a telematics-based IoT Operations Cloud platform for managing physical operations - fleets, drivers, logistics and workforce productivity. The company was founded in 2001 in South Africa to address vehicle theft, and has since extended from stolen vehicle recovery into a broader operations platform built on connected-vehicle data. Karooooo is listed on NASDAQ.

The technical work spans telematics, IoT, real-time and streaming data analytics, vehicle tracking and large-scale data processing. The IoT Operations Cloud ingests more than 275 billion data points a month and converts them into real-time analytics intended to reduce costs, raise efficiency, improve safety and strengthen customer service. Two units sit under the holding company: Cartrack, the vehicle tracking and operations cloud business, and Karooooo Logistics, which handles logistics operations management.

The platform serves more than 125,000 commercial customers and some 2.6 million active subscribers across over 20 countries, with operations spanning Africa, Europe and Asia-Pacific. Industry verticals include fleet management, logistics, transportation, vehicle security and workforce productivity. Engineering and data roles are engaged with a system operating at continental scale, and the company has stated an orientation toward global expansion and toward extracting value from telematics data beyond its original recovery use case.
