A member-owned, not-for-profit credit union founded in 1935, offering banking, lending, investment and trust services plus financial education and community programmes to over 1.5 million members.
Boeing Employees' Credit Union (BECU) is a member-owned, not-for-profit financial cooperative headquartered in Tukwila, Washington. Founded in 1935, it began with $9 pooled by founding Boeing employees and made its first loan of $2.50 to help a coworker buy tools. It now serves over 1.5 million members and holds more than $30 billion in assets under management.
The credit union offers checking and savings accounts, credit cards, auto and home loans, investment services, trust services and business banking. Beyond banking products, it runs financial education programmes in the form of seminars and webinars, along with scholarships and community grants administered in part through the BECU Foundation.
As a cooperative, BECU has no shareholders: every member is an owner, and earnings are returned to members through better rates, lower fees and community investment rather than distributed as profit. The organisation describes itself as guided by the credit union philosophy of "people helping people", with an emphasis on inclusion and empowerment and a stated aim of building a culture in which employees and members can grow. Its mission is to improve the financial well-being of its members and the communities it serves.
