Bloom Energy

Bloom Energy builds and deploys solid oxide fuel cell Energy Servers that generate electricity without combustion, with deployments at over 1,000 locations in nine countries.

Bloom Energy develops and deploys solid oxide fuel cell technology, marketed as Energy Servers, which generate electricity without combustion and with near-zero emissions. Founded in 2001 by Dr. K.R. Sridhar, the company traces its origins to research conducted for a NASA Mars mission; it began with eight employees and has since grown into a global organisation. Its stated mission is to make clean, reliable energy affordable for everyone on Earth.

The company's technical work spans solid oxide fuel cells, electrolysis - including a CO2-to-oxygen electrolyzer - distributed energy generation and clean energy technology more broadly. The Energy Server platform is reported to achieve up to 99.999% availability, a figure relevant to customers for whom power interruptions are costly. In 2024 Bloom Energy signed a 1 GW agreement with American Electric Power, described as its largest fuel cell agreement to date.

Systems have been deployed at over 1,000 locations across nine countries. The customer base includes data centres, technology and cloud services firms, retailers, energy and utilities companies and Fortune 100 enterprises. The company is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker BE.
