BioDigital
BioDigital makes a cloud-based interactive 3D map of the human body, with 8,000+ anatomical structures and 600 conditions, used for health education and patient communication.
BioDigital builds what it describes as the world's first interactive 3D body platform: a cloud-based, medically accurate virtual map of the human body used for healthcare education and patient communication. The platform, sometimes characterised as "Google Maps for the Human Body", contains more than 8,000 anatomical structures and 600 health conditions, and is delivered across desktop, mobile and AR/VR in eight languages. The company's engineering work spans 3D visualization, interactive 3D anatomy mapping, cloud software, AR/VR and medical simulation.
By the company's own figures, the platform supports over 100m health conversations a year. Its customers include medical schools, hospitals, pharmaceutical companies and medical device manufacturers; its geographic presence is described as global, with a base in the United States. Technical teams work on rendering and interaction problems of scale - maintaining a medically accurate anatomical model and delivering it consistently across devices and languages.
The stated mission is to improve health literacy and reduce medical errors, which the company notes are the third leading cause of death in America. BioDigital also cites $2bn in annual US waste attributed to low health literacy as the problem its platform addresses, alongside ambitions to lower costs, improve outcomes and save lives.
