ACLED

ACLED is a non-profit collecting and analysing near-real-time data on political violence and protest events in every country and territory worldwide.

ACLED, or Armed Conflict Location & Event Data, is an independent, impartial non-profit that collects and analyses near-real-time data on political violence and protest events worldwide. Founded in 2005 as a PhD project, it now records the dates, actors, locations, fatalities and event types of reported political violence and protest incidents in every country and territory. Its dataset is described as the highest-quality and most widely used near-real-time source on political violence and protest data.

The organisation's output serves several fields. Its core product, the ACLED Political Violence & Protest Dataset, sits alongside the Conflict Index, Regional Monitors tracking crises in Ukraine, Gaza, Mozambique and Yemen, and data visualisation tools used by governments, humanitarian agencies, academic institutions and media organisations to identify and respond to emerging threats.

ACLED operates as a 501(c)(3) US-based non-profit, established in 2014. It runs a remote-first team of researchers and analysts distributed across every conflict region. Work spans data collection, data analysis, conflict and political violence monitoring, geospatial and event data, data visualisation and near-real-time data systems. The culture is described as rigorous and accuracy-focused, with a mission of supporting efforts to save lives and prevent escalation.
