The Role:

We’re seeking a skilled and motivated Workshop technician – Fleet& Plant (Mechanic) to join our workshop team. Reporting to the Coordinator Workshop, you’ll carry out repairs and maintenance on Council’s diverse fleet, plant, and equipment, ensuring everything leaving the workshop is safe and fit for purpose.

This hands-on role involves diagnosing faults, performing repairs, and supporting continuous improvement in workshop practices. You’ll work on a variety of equipment, from trucks and earthmoving machinery to small engines, and contribute to a collaborative, safety-focused team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical faults.
  • Perform scheduled and breakdown maintenance efficiently and safely.
  • Undertake minor welding repairs and basic electrical/hydraulic work.
  • Maintain accurate job records and assist with procurement of parts and materials.
  • Support apprentices and trainees in developing skills.
  • Promote safe work practices and uphold WHS standards.

Skill & Competencies:

  • Trade Qualified Mechanic (Heavy or Light)
  • Skills in diesel/petrol engines, hydraulics, basic electrical, and welding.
  • Strong problem-solving and time management abilities.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Current HR and forklift licence, or commitment to obtain within 6 months.
