The School Board and Syracuse community have charged the Superintendent with improving student achievement, and she is seeking a dedicated and diverse team of educators to partner with her in moving the district toward its goals.
The Syracuse City School District represents 35 schools and programs, including 6 high schools, 6 middle schools, 6 K-8 schools, 13 elementary schools, and 4 alternative education programs, serving approximately 19,000 students Pre-K–12. Of these students, 82.3% qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, 20.1% are served by the Office of Special Education, and 83% are students of color.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Athletic Supervisor will administer all aspects of the athletic program and provide leadership to the physical education department within the assigned quadrant.
REPORTS TO: Director of Athletics
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Supervisor of Athletics will be expected to fulfill the following responsibilities:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the athletics and physical education at all middle schools.
- Recruit, lead and evaluate all athletic staff.
- Administer and interpret all regulations and policies related to the athletic program.
- Represent the District at the League, Section and State athletic organizations.
- Provide programmatic leadership for the physical education and athletic departments.
- Implement the annual athletic budget for all middle schools.
- Provide daily transportation schedule for all practices and contests.
- Oversee the Academic Eligibility Policy and the Behavioral Eligibility policy.
- Provide year-round support for academically targeted athletes.
- Oversee building permits at middle schools.
- Provide for the safe and equitable use of the athletic facilities.
- Facilitate safe participation (i.e. sports physicals, AEDs, etc.)
- Collaborate with Maintenance, Transportation and the Parks Departments.
- Coordinate athletic purchases for all middle schools.
- Supervise the storage, care and distribution of supplies and equipment.

Develop and maintain positive public relationships with parents, district staff, opponents, press and community organizations (Parks, Higher Ed, etc.)
- Demonstrated success as a Physical Education Teacher (preferred)
- Successful experience as an athletic coach or administrator
- Ability to lead, organize, and manage a multi-faceted athletic program
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, teachers, coaches, administrators, and families
- Prior demonstration of exemplary attendance is expected of any candidate for hire.
- Training and or experience with Culturally Relevant Education.
- The successful candidate will be required to pass a fingerprint-based background check, at the cost of $102.00 to the candidate.

CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS:
- New York State School District Leader Certificate (SDL) or School District Administrator (SDA.
- New York State Permanent or Professional Certificate in Physical Education.
SALARY/SALARY RANGE:
- Salary and benefits pursuant to the Unit 2 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). The starting salary for the 2026-2027 school year is $122,117.
