Introduction

The Solar PV Electrician is responsible for all preventive and corrective maintenance on the solar plant, while making sure the HSE procedures are followed. The Electrician must give support to the Plant foreman by completing fault reports and conduct root cause analysis of fault events.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Performs the preventative maintenance, according with the maintenance plan of the site.
  • Performs routine inspections, according with the maintenance plan of the site
  • Providing support for interdepartmental requests, e.g., maintenance issues, attending to technical questions and reviewing fault reports.
  • Completion of maintenance checklists.
  • Inspection, maintenance and operation of plant.
  • Complete maintenance cards (“job cards”) for all work undertaken.
  • Complete Permit to Work for non-routine work as defined by procedure.
  • Ensure all records are submitted to Line Manager, including checklist
  • Train/mentor interns.
  • Fetch and carry tools and equipment required for maintenance tasks.
  • The artisan is expected to use company tools correctly and responsibly, including signing out tools, cleaning, and reporting condition of normal wear and tear
  • Cleaning of plant areas, sites and buildings. workshop areas including sweeping, washing of equipment.
  • Maintain a safe working environment for all plant and maintenance staff.
  • Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.
  • Attend Toolbox Talks (in conjunction with SHEQ department and Foreman)
  • Proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE);
  • Maintain housekeeping in maintenance areas.
  • Perform stand-by duties and night work
  • Undertake training courses as required, for example, Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA), hazardous chemical substances, overhead crane, rigging, working at heights etc.

Desired Experience & Qualification

  1. Matric / Grade 12,
  2. Trade tested as Electrician – Red Seal Non-Negotaible.
  3. At least 2 years experience in maintenance of electrical equipment, renewable power plants Operation & Maintenance (particularly solar)
  4. Proficient in MS Office.
  5. Practical experience with electrical wiring and maintenance practices required.
  6. Practical experience with diagnostic tools, meters and other specialized testing equipment.
  7. Good understanding of High Voltage Regulations
  8. Experience in switching LV, MV and HV systems. (proof of POE)

Proof of residence must be from Ward Councilor and Tribal Office, where applicable
