Overview

Electric Boat is the premier designer and builder of nuclear powered submarines for the US Navy and we are experiencing a period of unprecedented growth! We are looking for people who want to learn and grow within our Shipfitting Department as we continue to build the most advanced submarines.

 

 

With more than a century of experience, Electric Boat has established standards of excellence in the design, construction and lifecycle support of submarines for the US Navy while maintaining a safe and healthy workplace. Working with various metals, a Shipfitter is required to interpret construction drawings with basic mathematic ability. Job tasks include layout, fabrication, assembly and installation of foundations, structures, components and deck packages. Individuals need to develop a working knowledge of structural weld joint fit-up/weld symbols, burning and grinding operations. Work assignments will be accomplished using company drawings, test documents, technical manuals, and shipyard procedures. Work conditions may include entry in restricted/confined spaces.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma/GED or 2+ years of related technical experience
  • 5+ years of shipfitting related experience
  • Must be available to train and work on any shift

Preferred:

  • Additional preference given for Vocational, Technical and Community Colleges or Apprentice programs
  • Successful completion of the Eastern CT Workforce Investment Board (EWIB) Manufacturing Pipeline Initiative training program
  • Knowledge in fitting, fairing and shaping steel pieces, hull sections, bulkheads and equipment foundations 
  • Ability to interpret structural drawings, technical manuals, test documents and diagrams

Skills

  • Must be able to work all shifts and in all environments as well as Radiological areas of the boat
  • Willing to accept road job assignments
  • Individuals are required to possess their own basic hand tools 
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOD secret clearance
