Senior QA Automation Engineer

Service NSW is delivering trusted, accessible and customer centred digital services at scale. As a Senior QA Automation Engineer, you’ll play a central role in uplifting quality engineering capability across squads and platforms that support millions of customers. 

Joining our central Quality Engineering function, you’ll influence automation strategy, improve testability, and help teams adopt modern engineering and shift-left practices. This role offers broad scope, high visibility, and the opportunity to shape how teams across Service NSW build quality into their delivery. 

What you’ll do 

This role isn’t about spending your days writing automated tests. It’s about shaping how quality happens across an entire ecosystem. You’ll work with multiple squads, uplift engineering practices, support testability, and help teams adopt scalable automation frameworks that make delivery safer and faster.   • Partner with engineering squads to embed quality early, improve testability and support adoption of automation frameworks and standards. 
  • Provide technical leadership, coaching and best practice guidance on automation strategy, tooling and scalable framework implementation, practice guidance on automation strategy, tooling and scalable framework implementation. 
  • Contribute to the evolution of core automation frameworks so they remain scalable, maintainable and easy for teams to adopt. 
  • Lead and support cross portfolio end to end automation initiatives that strengthen confidence in critical customer journeys, portfolio end-to-end automation initiatives that strengthen confidence in critical customer journeys. 
  • Work collaboratively with engineers, product teams, tech leads and EMs to resolve complex integration and quality challenges. 
  • Promote consistent engineering standards, sensible defaults and CI/CD practices that uplift overall delivery quality. 
  • Improve visibility of quality outcomes by helping to measure, track and communicate automation coverage, risks and release confidence.

We’re looking for Senior QA Automation Engineers who demonstrate: 

  • Deep technical expertise in test automation architecture, modern frameworks, CI/CD integration and scalable automation design. 
  • Strong ability to coach, mentor and influence squads, helping teams adopt best practices rather than relying on hands on test execution on test execution. 
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder skills. Able to make complex concepts clear for engineers, tech leads, product teams and EMs.

Our recruitment process  

Our recruitment and assessment process is merit based. For this recruitment we will be conducting a minimum of three interview and assessment stages that form a comparative process.  
This will include;

3. Behavioural Interview 
4. Reference checks  

Office locations 

Support office roles are headquartered across Haymarket, Parramatta, and Gosford. We will consider role headquarters outside of these locations where the role can reasonably be performed from that location, taking into consideration the operational, financial, and customer requirements of the role, and an ability to attend a NSW Government workplace as required. 

Salary Grade SNSW 9/10, with the base salary for this role starting at $130,705 base plus superannuation
