About the Opportunity
The Senior Network Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining VicRoads’ network infrastructure. This role involves ensuring high availability, performance, and security across our network systems, supporting the continuous operation of mission-critical business applications and services. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise in network design, troubleshooting, and optimisation with a focus on scalability, security, and reliability.
About you
You are an experienced network engineer with a strong background in designing, implementing and supporting complex network environments. You bring hands‑on expertise across routing, switching, VPNs, VLANs and network segmentation, with proven ability to troubleshoot issues, optimise performance and ensure secure, reliable connectivity. Your experience spans advanced networking technologies such as SD‑WAN, wireless networks (including Meraki Wi‑Fi), and hybrid or cloud‑based networking solutions across platforms such as AWS and Azure.
You have a strong understanding of network security principles, including firewalls, intrusion prevention systems and access control policies, and are comfortable working with monitoring and observability tools such as New Relic and SolarWinds. You’re familiar with network protocols and technologies including TCP/IP, BGP and OSPF, and bring exposure to network automation and scripting tools such as Python or Ansible. Your analytical mindset and attention to detail enable you to identify issues quickly while maintaining high standards of quality and reliability.
You communicate effectively and collaborate well with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders, confidently explaining complex concepts and working across teams. You are comfortable working independently, managing competing priorities and multiple initiatives, and taking ownership of outcomes. Experience in IP address management, network automation tooling and operating in modern, scalable environments is highly regarded.
A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field (or equivalent experience) is desirable, as are industry certifications such as CCNA, CompTIA Network+, Meraki, CISSP or other network and security certifications.
