Description

WSP is currently seeking a passionate Senior Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in HVAC and Mechanical Building Services to join our Water & Wastewater team in Bengaluru.  This position will be responsible for working on design of Building Mechanical systems for treatment plant facilities, Pump stations, etc. in Water & Wastewater projects. The role involves working independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver projects to international standards. 

The ideal candidate should also have familiarity and understanding of other disciplines and how they relate to one another in a multidisciplinary project. The candidate will be required to manage projects and should be able to work and communicate effectively with teams in Canada, senior management, peers and team members. 

Successful candidate will be a dynamic, self-motivated individual who will lead small groups of engineers and modellers in engineering delivery with focus on technical excellence.  The role requires management of several projects and becoming involved in design at an early stage.  Extensive coordination with teams in CANADA is a must. Candidate should have a clear and demonstrable technical understanding of standards and norms pertaining to Canada Water Industry. 



Responsibilities
  • Carryout detailed engineering and design of Balance of Plant or Building MEP services related to buildings in water and wastewater treatment facilities. This includes but not limited to HVAC, Fire Protection, Compressed air, etc. 
  • Lead and produce detailed HVAC designs including heat load calculations, duct and pipe sizing, pressure drop calculations, and equipment selection (e.g., chillers, AHUs, FCUs, boilers, fans, pumps).

  • Ensure compliance with international codes and standards such as ASHRAE, NFPA, SMACNA, and Canadian regulations.

  • Proficiency in fire protection design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, or similar tools.
  • Develop detailed designs for fire protection systems, including sprinkler systems, fire alarms, and special hazard systems.
  • Perform hydraulic calculations using either AutoSprink, HASS, or PipeNet
  • Ensure designs comply with NFPA, local building codes, and international standards.
  • Generate and supervise preparation of data sheets and equipment specifications, technical appraisals and selection.
  • Utilize design software such as AutoCAD, Revit MEP, MicroStation, and HVAC simulation tools like HAP, Hevacomp, IES

  • Work in a diverse environment and be able to demonstrate best practice in project delivery; be familiar with relevant international standards/guidelines. 
  • Be aware of check/review process and verify project deliverables for compliance to specifications/requirements in terms of completeness, accuracy and quality.
  • Assist in the preparation of proposals, Design studies, safety reviews, Designers Risk Assessments, HAZOP studies and constructability reviews. 
  • Support technical development of Engineers, Technicians and Graduates.


Qualifications

Mandatory Skills

  • Experience in detailed engineering and design of Balance of Plant or Building MEP services essential. Specific experience in Canadian water and wastewater treatment sector is an advantage.   
  • Expertise in Water wastewater infrastructure design
  • Proven experience in HVAC and Fire Protection design for a wide range of building types.

  • Proficiency in mechanical design software and Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Word, Excel, Project).

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and familiarity with Revit MEP and HVAC simulation tools.

Desired Skills

  • Knowledge of MicroStation would be advantageous.
  • Membership in professional bodies such as IMechE, IET, CIBSE, ISHRAE, ASHRAE.

  • Knowledge of sustainable design practices and integration of renewable energy systems

  • Additional certifications or training in HVAC or Building Services.
