We’re seeking a passionate and experienced Senior Electrical Engineer – Design Lead who thrives in a collaborative environment and is excited to take on a role as a technical expert and serve as the design lead for the new and ongoing projects. In this role, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our projects—leading the design of cutting-edge electrical systems while building strong relationships with clients and partners. You’ll work alongside a talented team of engineers, architects, and designers to bring innovative, sustainable, and high-performance buildings to life.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the design and development of electrical construction plans, including layouts, details, and specifications.
- Engineer comprehensive building systems including lighting, power distribution, and specialty electrical systems.
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams—architects, interior designers, civil engineers, and other building systems professionals.
- Work alongside junior staff and contribute to a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
- Engage with clients as a technical resource as needed.

Primary job responsibilities include:
- Perform complex analysis, calculations, design, evaluation and inspection for a specific area of technical expertise which includes Electrical Power and Lighting.
- Utilize Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD software to complete construction drawings. Also, use Revit as an engineering tool to design the electrical systems including device layout, power circuiting, lighting design, panel schedules, etc.
- Review project requirements and specifications and confer with other disciplines and managers to determine assistance required in plan preparation, evaluation of project conditions, design changes and reports.
- Front-facing with clients. Perform client and project needs assessments, determine and discuss potential solutions, and ensure satisfactory customer service. Also, attend project meetings to present design concepts and make adjustments to meet client requirements.
- Prepare and present technical and program information to team members, management, and clients in a clear and logical manner.
- Complete design tasks by detailing the scope of work, conducting the analysis, inspecting the site, reviewing the requirements to assure the quality of the assigned task.
- Coordinate or perform field work to gather data and materials.
- Maintain a working knowledge of government, military and industry criteria and standards.
- Perform quality control procedures such as reviewing project deliverables prior to client submissions also performing an internal technical review of other engineers’ designs.
- Edit and review technical specifications and prepare a written narrative as part of the project deliverables.
- Review shop drawings and submittals, answer RFI’s and perform site visits as needed during the construction phase.
- Prepare design fees for project managers or contractors as required as part of proposal or RFP process
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field (e.g., Architectural Engineering with electrical emphasis).
- Education: bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field (e.g., Architectural Engineering with electrical emphasis).
- Experience: 8–10+ years of hands-on experience in electrical design for buildings (commercial, industrial, or institutional). Experience in Water/Wastewater is a plus.
- Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE). LEED AP is a plus
- Drafting & Modeling: Proficiency in Autodesk Revit (BIM) and AutoCAD for creating comprehensive electrical construction packages.
- Power System Analysis: Familiarity in using tools like SKM PowerTools, ETAP, or EasyPower for load flow, short-circuit, and arc-flash studies.
- System Design Expertise: Proven ability to design:
- Power distribution (low and medium voltage), including one-line diagrams and panel schedules.
- Interior and exterior lighting and control systems.
- Code Knowledge: Expert-level understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA 72, and NFPA 101, plus the ability to understand and interpret local and state building codes
- Full Lifecycle Management: Lead electrical design from site assessment and concept through construction administration and commissioning.
- Coordination: Actively collaborate with architects, mechanical engineers, and structural engineers to ensure integrated, clash-free designs.
- Quality Assurance: Review and approve shop drawings, vendor submittals, and technical specifications for accuracy and compliance.
- Teamwork: Work directly with junior engineers and drafters.
Other preferred skills include:
- Federal Design-Build experience preferred
- Knowledge of Unified Facilities Criteria
- Medium voltage design experienced
- Lightning protection system design experience
- LEED Certification (LEED GA, LEED AP, etc.)
- Water/Wastewater Design
- Knowledge of AGI32 and/or ElumTools lighting design software
Compensation
The approximate compensation range for this position is $109,179 to $189,134. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
