About the role

We’re looking for a Senior Aerospace Engineer with Defence / Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group experience to support the Aircraft Life Support Management Unit (ALSMU).

This is a client-facing role providing engineering leadership, technical governance, and assurance across Aviation Life Support Equipment (ALSE), working directly with Defence stakeholders.

This role will suit someone who enjoys combining hands-on technical with broader capability and people mentorship, and who values disciplined, well-governed delivery in complex environments.

What you will be involved with

• Review and approve technical artefacts, including Formal Advice, Risk Assessments, and ALSE Standards updates, in accordance with the ALSMU Engineering Management Plan 

• Review technical capability across ALSMU (engineers and specialists) and grant engineering authority in line with the established governance framework 

• Maintain and improve ALSMU engineering management plans, processes, and instructions used by the Capability Planning Team 

• Mentor and support ALSE engineers and specialists across system safety, risk management, and human factors, including coordinating and delivering continuation training sessions

What we would like from you

• Defence / CASG experience (or demonstrated ability to work within Commonwealth engineering governance frameworks)
• Degree-qualified Aeronautical/Aerospace/Mechanical Engineer
• Proven engineering experience, able to guide, mentor, and support a multidisciplinary engineering team
• Strong engineering management system capability (plans, processes, assurance, technical governance)
• Experience in system safety, risk management, and human factors within an aviation environment
• Clear written communication for formal advice, risk assessments, and technical documentation

• Australian citizen and with a current or recently suspended Australian Government security clearance
