About the role

We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Product Development Engineer to join our creative and supportive Product & Innovation team in North Plympton, contributing directly at the core of Philmac’s end to end product development pipeline.

This role is ideal for a Mechanical or Production Engineer whose concept of design and innovation sits at their core, and who is ready to step into an established portfolio and hit the ground running.

You will drive product development from early‑stage concept through to design, testing and launch, while also improving existing products to meet performance, quality and manufacturability requirements. Working closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Marketing and Sales, locally and internationally, you will act as a technical advisory and problem‑solver across the business

What you will do

  • Lead the design and development of mechanical products from concept through to commercial release

  • Take ownership of innovation projects, managing design activities and delivering outcomes

  • Develop detailed 3D designs and prototypes using engineering software (Creo preferred)

  • Apply deep knowledge of plastics, polymers and injection moulding to create robust, manufacturable designs

  • Conduct and support product testing and validation using test facilities

  • Identify, troubleshoot and resolve design‑related operational issues

  • Support tooling and moulding activities in collaboration with manufacturing teams

  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to stakeholders across Marketing, Sales, Quality and Production

  • Ensure products and processes align with ISO 9001, ISO 17025 and ISO 14001 standards
     

About you

 You are a driven, technically capable engineer who enjoys turning ideas into tangible, high‑performing products. You are comfortable taking initiative, working autonomously and working collaboratively in a team environment.
 
You will bring:

  • A tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering or a related discipline

  • A strong Mechanical or Production Engineering background

  • Demonstrated experience in handson product development and mechanical product design

  • Practical experience designing plastic, building products and brass components (advantageous)

  • Strong understanding of plastics materials, polymers and injection moulding processes (highly regarded)

  • Experience with plumbing, irrigation, building or construction products (highly regarded)

  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software, ideally Creo

  • A proven ability to analayse problems, think creatively and deliver practical solutions

  • Excellent communication skills and confidence working with multiple stakeholders

  • A proactive mindset with the drive to innovate, challenge ideas and continuously improve

  • Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident as no sponsorship will be provided.
