POSITION TITLE:        Physical Education / Strength & Conditioning Coach

 

QUALIFICATIONS:       Minimum of bachelor’s degree with proper Tennessee endorsement enabling candidate to teach Physical education 

 

REPORTS TO:               Principal and/or Secondary Supervisor

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Teachers- 11 months (220 days) with benefits

 

Position Summary

Johnson County Schools is seeking a motivated and student-centered Physical Education Teacher / Strength and Conditioning Coach to serve students at both Johnson County High School and Johnson County Middle School. This position is responsible for delivering high-quality physical education instruction while developing and implementing a comprehensive strength and conditioning program that promotes student wellness, athletic development, and lifelong fitness habits.

The ideal candidate will foster a culture of discipline, teamwork, and effort while prioritizing student safety and proper training techniques.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Physical Education Instruction

  • Plan and deliver engaging physical education instruction aligned with Tennessee academic standards.

  • Teach students fundamental fitness concepts, proper movement techniques, and healthy lifestyle habits.

  • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages participation and personal growth.

  • Assess student progress and maintain accurate records of student performance.

Strength and Conditioning Program

  • Design and oversee a comprehensive strength and conditioning program for middle and high school student-athletes.

  • Teach proper lifting techniques, injury prevention strategies, and safe use of equipment.

  • Collaborate with athletic coaches to support sport-specific conditioning goals.

  • Supervise the weight room and training sessions before, during, or after school as needed.

  • Maintain organization, cleanliness, and safety of weight room facilities and equipment.

Collaboration and Leadership

  • Work collaboratively with school administrators, coaches, and staff to support district athletic programs.

  • Promote sportsmanship, accountability, and character development among student-athletes.

  • Assist with coordination of offseason training and summer workout opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Valid Tennessee teaching license with endorsement in Physical Education (or ability to obtain).

  • Knowledge of strength training principles, conditioning methods, and athletic development.

  • Ability to work effectively with students in grades 6–12.

  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills.

  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification such as Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), USA Weightlifting, or similar credential.

  • Experience working with school athletic programs and supervising student weight training.

Terms of Employment

Employment is based on the current teacher salary schedule and any board-approved supplements as applicable for Johnson County Schools.

Attendance

Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position. Attendance is expected in order to fulfill the responsibilities of the role and effectively support student learning and school operations.

Physical Demands

This position may require standing, walking, lifting, demonstrating physical activities, and supervising students during physical education classes and strength training sessions.
