M&E Undergraduate Engineer

Downer’s Energy & Utilities business is seeking a motivated casual M&E Undergraduate Engineer to join our Water Services Queensland operations. This is a hands-on opportunity for someone currently studying Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering who wants real exposure to live construction projects and site-based delivery.

You’ll work alongside experienced Project Managers, Supervisors and Engineers, supporting the delivery of mechanical and electrical works across water and utilities infrastructure. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being on site, learning by doing, and contributing to projects that keep communities running.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for a casual practical, safety-focused undergraduate who is keen to build their engineering career in a construction and utilities environment. You’ll bring:

• Currently undertaking a Bachelor or Advanced Diploma in Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering
• A current Class C Driver Licence
• Exposure to project engineering, construction, or industrial/commercial environments (minimum 1 year preferred)
• Ability to assist with: 
  • Project planning, design coordination and procurement activities
  • Budget tracking, cost control and progress reporting
  • Quality documentation and project controls
  • Supplier, subcontractor and consultant coordination
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD and design/drafting principles
• Strong attention to detail with accurate record keeping
• A proactive approach to safety, quality and environmental (SQE) standards
• Clear communication skills and the ability to work well in a team or independently

You’ll also be comfortable working on site, attending toolbox talks, supporting inspections, and contributing to Downer’s Zero Harm culture.
