Position Purpose:

The Lifeguard ensures the safety of the facility patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies. |
Key Responsibilities [List of material responsibilities and essentials duties which must be completed in achieving the objectives of the position]

· General supervision of all activity in pool areas. · Maintain a safe environment in pool areas and enforce all pool rules, regulations, and policies. · General cleaning/maintenance of aquatics area. · Monitor quality of water in pool, spa, and therapy pool. · Have a working knowledge of pool, spa, and therapy pool equipment and chemicals. · Be knowledgeable of all pool programs and events. · Demonstrate excellent customer service. · Complete records and reports. · Participate in in-service trainings. · Recognize and respond effectively to emergencies. · Report any irregularities to Aquatics Manager, Director, and/or Manager. · Demonstrate ability to supervise and control all activity in the pool area so that a safe environment is maintained. · Other duties as assigned. |
Qualifications [Statements regarding minimum educational and experience qualifications, required proficiencies with specialized knowledge, computer proficiencies, military service, required certifications, etc.]

Certification/Licensure: · Lifeguard certification. · First Aid certification. · CPR certification through American Heart Association: BLS or Heartsaver with AED or American Red Cross with AED. Skills and Knowledge: · Thorough knowledge and application of lifeguarding, surveillance, and rescue techniques. · Must be able to perform lifeguarding skills including rescue techniques and swimming techniques. · Strong swimmer. · Must be able to speak clearly and articulate instructions and take charge in an emergency situation. |

Education: · High school diploma · College degree and/or background in physical fitness Experience: One-year lifeguarding experience preferred. |

Exposure Categories: · Category II: Expected duties have possible, but not routine, potential for exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues · Other potential exposures to physical injuries such as tripping, falling, muscle strains and other injuries related to various aquatics exercises in or out of the water. Exposure to a chemically treated indoor pool on a daily basis. Handling of testing reagents on a daily basis. |
Work Requirements [Optional section: work requirements for physical or other important issues which relate to the job]

· Must be able to swim 60 minutes weekly and perform all physical maneuvers required as a lifeguard. Some lifting involved; removing an adult from the water. · Must be able to stand for long periods of time. · Ability to visually monitor participants and observe aquatics area to assure the safety of all members, patients, and/or guests. · Ability to hear calls for help and to see members/patients in the aquatics area in case of emergency. · Ability to smell in case of chemical leakage or incorrect levels. |
