SUMMARY
The Head Coach is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the men’s basketball program in compliance with National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) regulations, Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) requirements, and the institutional policies of Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC). This includes developing student-athletes' athletic performance, academic achievement, and personal growth.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Coaching and Player Development
- Plan, organize, and execute practice sessions to develop players' technical, tactical, and physical skills.
- Provide individualized coaching to enhance player performance and development.
- Implement strategies and game plans for optimal team performance in intercollegiate competition.
Recruitment and Retention
- Recruit and retain academically and athletically qualified student-athletes in alignment with NJCAA, KJCCC, and KCKCC regulations.
- Develop and maintain relationships with high school coaches, club programs, and 4-year college coaches to both recruit prospective student-athletes and successfully place them after graduation.
- Provide guidance to incoming student athletes on the admissions, advising, and other onboarding processes.
Academic Support and Rules Compliance
- Monitor and support student-athletes’ academic progress to ensure graduation and transfer success.
- Understand and promote compliance with NJCAA, KJCCC, and KCKCC rules and regulations.
- Educate student-athletes on rules, standards, and expectations for participation in intercollegiate athletics.
Program Operations
- Develop and manage the annual budget for the Men’s Basketball program.
- Coordinate team travel, scheduling, and planning for practices and competitions.
- Collaborate with athletic administration personnel and other head coaches to ensure program success.
- Collaborate with the Head Men’s Basketball Coach on facility maintenance, improvements, and 3rd party-rentals of the gymnasium.
- Effectively hire, train, lead, and develop the Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach to ensure program success.
Community Engagement and Leadership
- Foster positive relationships with the campus community and local stakeholders.
- Represent the men’s soccer program and the institution at community events and recruiting activities.
- Promote a culture of sportsmanship, discipline, and respect among student-athletes and staff.
- Work closely with the Director of Athletics on long and short-term planning for the program.
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Ability to lead a team toward a common goal by building trust, challenging, and supporting the student-athletes in the men’s basketball program.
- Excellent communication skills, including verbal and written correspondence.
- Ability to foster positive internal and external relationships.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Two (2 years of head coaching experience at the intercollegiate level OR
- Five (5) years as a college assistant, which includes recruiting student-athletes, marketing, scheduling, equipment budgeting/management, and facility care.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in Sport Management, Coaching, or a related field.
- Demonstrated athletic and academic success as a Head Coach at the intercollegiate level.
- Extensive recruiting experience.
- College-level playing experience or higher (professional playing experience will be considered in lieu of employment experience).

•Ability to instruct, observe, and direct athletes during basketball practices and games.
WORK SCHEDULE
Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours.
