WSP supports the Canadian Nuclear Laboratories on the Port Hope Area Initiative, and as part of our growing team, you’ll play a role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and high‑quality verification of remediation following the removal of Low‑Level Radioactive Waste.

This work matters — and your impact will help safeguard communities, the environment, and future generations.

Your Impact

You will apply your training and technical skills to:

  • Review historical project information to identify data gaps and develop remedial sampling plans.
  • Monitor excavation activities and ensure adherence to project standards.
  • Conduct radiological scanning, sampling, and soil characterization for completed excavations.
  • Perform interior scanning and collect relevant environmental samples.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain equipment (radiological instruments, GPS, XRF, etc.).
  • Assess field issues and determine whether additional or reduced remediation is required.
  • Enter, manage, and quality‑review data within GIS‑based systems.
  • Troubleshoot field or data‑related challenges to maintain workflow efficiency.
  • Prepare clear documentation and reports summarizing findings.
  • Contribute to strong health & safety performance across all activities.
  • Build collaborative relationships with internal teams, contractors, and clients.

The Skills That Set You Apart

  • College or university background in soil/groundwater assessment, environmental sciences, radiation protection, biology, GIS, or a related discipline.
  • Ideally 2+ years of field experience in soil/groundwater sampling or radiation protection — entry‑level candidates will be considered for select roles.
  • Ability to work in both field and office environments, including potential travel outside Port Hope.
  • Comfortable using radiological and environmental sampling equipment, GIS tools, and digital data systems.
  • Strong problem‑solving mindset with a focus on quality, safety, and teamwork.
