Position Summary:

Job Description:

Western Colorado University invites applications for the full-time position of Assistant Women’s Wrestling Coach.  The position reports to the Head Women’s Wrestling Coach.

Responsibilities: The Assistant Women’s Wrestling Coaching duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Recruit student-athletes while meeting University policy and NCAA Division II regulations. Works closely with the Head Coach to this end. In consultation with the Director of Athletics, Compliance Coordinator, and Head Coach, assures that student-athletes are eligible to participate in athletics according to university and NCAA Division II regulations.
  • Assists Head Coach with organizing and conducting practices and conditioning sessions. Assists with the coordination of the distribution, collection, and storage of athletic equipment, gear and supplies (during the season and at its conclusion) and the collection of fees for lost equipment and gear by student-athletes
  • Demonstrates concern for the academic, physical and emotional well-being of each team member by actively encouraging and supporting the academic success of team members. This includes encouraging or ensuring regular class attendance, monitoring grades and working to minimize conflicts between athletic and academic responsibilities. Actively encourages and supports the psychological and emotional well-being of team members, provides appropriate mentoring and life guidance, and seeks professional assistance when circumstances warrant. 
  • Financial management: Adheres to budget, one card, cash handling policies and guidelines established by the University and Foundation.
  • Maintains up-do-date knowledge of, and compliance with, Western Colorado University, NCAA Division II, RMAC and NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Completes NCAA and federally mandated initial and ongoing Title IX training, fulfills Title IX reporting expectations and ensures participation of team athletes in all Title IX and Sexual Assault mandatory trainings.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with administrative staff, coaches, student-athletes and other University staff.
  • Actively participates in Athletic Department functions, meetings, and in university committees as assigned.   
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. (Since every duty associated with this position may not be specifically spelled out, employees may be required to perform additional duties considered incidental in the performance of this job.)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • College wrestling experience.
  • General knowledge of NCAA Division II Wrestling practices and regulations.
  • Ability to establish good rapport and relationships with student athletes, administrators, staff, alumni and the general public.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Coaching experience at the collegiate level.
  • Competition experience at the collegiate level.

Compensation: $40,560 (This position is FLSA exempt) Western offers an excellent benefits package including shared premiums for a comprehensive health insurance plan, dental insurance, retirement plan, life insurance, and other insurance options. After one year of employment, Western provides free tuition for dependents enrolled full time in undergraduate programs for up to four years.
