Augustana University is located in the growing and vibrant city of Sioux Falls, South Dakota with a metro area of over 265,000 people. With the addition of the $70 million Midco Arena, Augustana Athletics launched the first collegiate hockey program in South Dakota in 2023 and is also the first athletics program to compete at Division I that calls Sioux Falls home. Currently with 21 NCAA Division II sports programs, Augustana Athletics is focused on building champions in the classroom, in competition and in the community, highlighted by three team national championships since 2016. Viking Athletics finished #7 nationally in the Division II Learfield Director’s Cup in 2021-22 and also won the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) All Sports Award.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Emphasis placed on daily activities that benefit the student-athlete experience.
Understanding that the student-athlete welfare is a top priority and should be a high priority in the daily interaction and job responsibilities.
Coordinate and manage specific aspects of defensive/offensive staff and positions as directed by the Head Coach. Direct the planning, organization, and execution for on field coaching duties, practice sessions, and competition responsibilities of defensive/offensive staff with the Head Coach.
Direct game day organization and assignments.
Coordinate evaluation of opponents and the development of a game plan in accordance with assistants and positions.
Perform recruiting responsibilities as assigned by the Head Coach to meet the objectives of the university and team, including evaluation, contact, and establishing relationships with prospective student-athletes and coaches.
Responsible for supervision, instruction and direction of student-athletes as assigned by the Head Coach.
Assist Head Coach in all day-to-day operations of the sport program.
Coordinate student athlete activities including but not limited to recruiting, conditioning, and academic services as needed and designated by the Head Coach.
Teach the assigned classes assigned by the department with professional integrity and university expectations.
Support, abide and enforce all academic guidelines and policies of the university, athletics department and Football program to ensure academic progress of the student-athlete as directed by the Head Coach.
Support and work cooperatively with the Sports Medicine/Athletic Training, Strength and Conditioning, Equipment, Student Development, NCAA Compliance, Media Relations etc. areas in accordance with department policies and procedures.
Assist with administrative functions of the Football program as directed by the Head Coach. Perform duties with professional conduct, being fiscally responsible and with a commitment to student-athlete well-being.
Abide by all written policies, procedures, and guidelines of Augustana University and the Department of Athletics. Understand and adhere to the Augustana Athletic Department Manual that outlines general staff conduct.
Build quality relationships and work collaboratively and professionally with athletics, University staff, students, and all constituencies and stakeholders.
Adhere to all NCAA and Conference affiliated bylaws set forth by the governing bodies.
Perform any and all other duties as assigned by the Head Coach.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree
Football Coaching Experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous high school or college coaching experience
Preferred master’s degree
Preferred Running Back experience
