Position: APS6 .Net Software Engineer / Developer
Location: Canberra, ACT (or remote)
Start date: July 2026
Duration: Approx. 12 months with potential to extend
Pay rate: Rates negotiable dependent on skills and experience
Security requirements: Must hold a Baseline security clearance
Overview:
A Federal Government department is seeking experienced .Net Software Engineers/Developers to support the delivery of a range of ICT projects within a dynamic and collaborative environment.
The role sits within a technology-focused division responsible for delivering digital solutions and enabling services to support regulatory processes and business operations. You will contribute to the development of secure, scalable, and user-focused applications leveraging modern cloud platforms.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain Azure-based web APIs and portal applications
- Integrate system components to deliver seamless end-to-end user experiences
- Provide technical advice on systems development and enhancements
- Apply secure coding practices to deliver robust and compliant solutions
- Conduct peer reviews of code and infrastructure
- Develop solutions in line with detailed architecture documentation and standards
- Produce and maintain technical and release documentation
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams in an agile delivery environment
- Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Mentor team members and support knowledge sharing and continuous improvement
- Contribute to a positive, collaborative, and high-performing team culture
Experience/requirements:
Technical Skills:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience delivering secure web-based business solutions
- Strong experience developing web APIs using Azure API Manager
- Experience building customer-facing web applications using .NET Framework (.NET Core, ASP.NET)
- Front-end development experience using Angular or React
- Experience with automated testing tools such as xUnit, NUnit, Selenium, or Playwright
- Familiarity with Information Security Manual (ISM) controls and secure development practices
Cloud Experience:
- Proven experience delivering cloud-based solutions using Azure services such as Logic Apps, Azure SQL, Service Bus, and API Manager
- Experience using Azure DevOps and Visual Studio for CI/CD, code management, and deployments
- Experience integrating custom applications with third-party systems (e.g. CRM platforms)
- Strong background in developing and optimising applications within Azure environments, including modernising legacy systems
Agile Delivery:
- Experience working in Agile, multi-disciplinary teams
Desirable:
- Experience with Agile and DevOps delivery models
- Additional experience in front-end frameworks (Angular/React)
- Experience with UI and integration testing tools (e.g. Selenium, Playwright, Jest)
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in software development or related field
- Experience working with SQL Server, Cosmos DB, Blob storage, and high-volume data processing
