Description

Based at either Brindley Park or Opal Creek feedlot, the role of Animal Husbandry Technician assists with the care of livestock by undertaking technical animal husbandry tasks and providing nutrition assessment.   

You’ll be rewarded with a base annual income between $77,000 - $86,000, plus superannuation and ongoing training and development.  Your day-to-day duties will include: 

  • Receival and induction of all animals into feedlot
  • Monitoring of animal health 
  • Ensuring adequate and correct rations are supplied to animals to ensure efficient pathway to desired finishing results
  • Accurate recording and data capture relating to animal movements, treatment and processes, including pregnancy testing
  • Administering of medication to sick animals, when necessary, in consultation with Veterinary staff
  • Safely and effectively undertake pen riding on (horseback) 
  • When necessary, operate heavy machinery as required including but not limited to Front End loader, Feed Truck, Skid steer
  • Ensure effective delivery of feed to animals, using modern machinery, ensuring arranging correct feed allotment allocated to specific animal pens to create desired finishing results.
  • When necessary, perform general repairs and maintenance of equipment as required including the use of grinder, welder, and other power tools

About you

Having obtained an AQF Advanced Diploma (or equivalent) or bring 3 years' experience, you'll be a self-motivated, positive team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment with an unwavering commitment to animal welfare, along with: 

  • Demonstrated experience handling cattle and managing livestock
  • Competency to safely handle and ride horses
  • Ability to safely and efficiently operate machinery, plant & equipment
  • Ability to accurately and promptly identify potential animal health issues 
  • Ability to undertake animal health procedures and safely administer treatment and medication 
  • Sound numeracy and literacy skills 
  • Appreciation of quality and compliance processes, with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Sound computer literacy and keyboard skills
