This position does require the applicant to coach or assist in coaching a minimum of two athletic activities with the district.
Job Summary: The High School Physical Education Teacher and Strength and Conditioning Coach is responsible for creating a dynamic learning and training environment that promotes lifelong health, physical fitness, and athletic development. This dual-role position supports both the general student population and the district's student-athletes by fostering physical literacy, developing sport-specific performance, and encouraging positive social and emotional growth. Certified staff of Oak Grove R- VI School District can participate in Career Ladder. Staff with two years of experience teaching in a Missouri Public School may earn $1,500 - $5,000 for approved work outside of the school day.
Essential functions:
Physical Education Instruction
- Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of physical education activities.
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
- Works cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning for conduct, discipline, and grading.
- Provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil; teaches physical education classes for handicapped pupils, as necessary.
- Provides appropriate safety instruction and safety checks on equipment and fields to ensure student safety.
- Manages the issue, use and storage of all school owned instructional texts, supplies, and equipment.
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas.
- Evaluates each pupil's growth in physical skills, knowledge, and contribution in sports participation.
- Maintains professional competence through in-service and professional growth activities.
- Selects, requisitions and inventory supplies, equipment, and instructional aids in concert with approved procedures.
- Communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress; identified pupil needs and assists other professional staff in helping pupils solve problems supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
- Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs; coaches at least two extracurricular athletic activities, if required to do so.
- Meets expectations according to the regular high school teacher job description.
- Maintains prompt and professional communication with parents.
- Assists in coaching a minimum of two sports during the school year as either a Head Coach or Assistant Coach.
- Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator.
Strength and Conditioning Coaching
- Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive strength and conditioning programs for male and female student-athletes across all district sports.
- Conduct individual and group training sessions that enhance athletic performance, reduce injury risk, and support sport-specific goals.
- Collaborate with athletic trainers, sport coaches, and administrators to ensure safe, effective, and developmentally appropriate training plans.
- Work with the district's vertical team to build a strong, consistent foundation for students as they transition between buildings and progress in their athletic development.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized weight room environment and ensure proper use of equipment.
- Track athlete progress and adjust programming based on performance data and seasonal needs.
Coaching Responsibilities
- Serve as a coach for at least two sports within the district, either as a head coach or assistant coach.
- Model and teach sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline, and competitive integrity.
- Support student-athletes academically, socially, and emotionally as part of a holistic coaching philosophy.
Other functions:
- Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds.
- Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls and answer emails.
- Participate in appropriate professional activities.
- Participate in extracurricular activities such as social activities, sporting activities, clubs, and student organizations as directed.
Knowledge Skills and Ability Required:
- Knowledge of Middle School Physical Education and Health curriculum and concepts, including all subject matters taught.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and the formulation of action plans.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation regarding performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

Certification:
- Bachelor's degree in physical education is required.
- Master's degree preferred, ideally with an emphasis in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, or a closely related field.
- Must hold, be eligible for, and maintain a Valid Missouri Teaching Certificate in the appropriate area of assignment.
Physical Requirements:
Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift, move, and/or support up to ten pounds or more at times.
