Neo.Tax

Neo.Tax builds an AI engine that automates IRS R&D tax credit applications and ASC 350-40 work for enterprise clients, drawing on engineering, payroll and financial data.

Neo.Tax, founded in 2019 and based in Mountain View, California, builds an AI engine for enterprise tax. Its platform automates the process of applying for IRS R&D tax credits and handling ASC 350-40, using artificial intelligence to remove the surveys, interviews, FIN48 analysis and RTP work that typically accompany such filings. The company has raised $25m and counts Fortune 2000 firms among its customers, including Adobe, Capital One, Thomson Reuters, Mercury, Notion and SoFi.

The core product, the Neo.Tax R&D Tax Credit Platform, integrates with project management tools such as Jira, payroll systems, GitHub and financial ledgers. It analyses engineering data in real time and generates documentation designed to meet IRS audit standards. The system draws on machine learning, large language models, tax code and regulation modelling, and data pipelines for payroll and financial ledgers.

Around the platform sit six AI agents. Project Creator works continuously across engineering signals to establish a single source of truth for R&D and software-cap decisions; IRS Qualification assesses project qualification against IRS codes, regulations and court cases; the Quantifier and QRE Calculator quantify credit components and Qualified Research Expenses; Project Narrative drafts the accompanying documentation; and QRE Defender produces audit-ready support for those calculations.

The company operates on a security-first basis. It is SOC 2 Type II certified and ISO 27001 compliant, and offers single-tenant deployments for enterprise customers. Neo.Tax describes itself as an AI-native firm focused on eliminating manual tax processes.
