Mercy

Catholic health system founded in 1827, running 50+ hospitals and 1,000+ outpatient sites across four Midwest states with work in AI, data science and predictive medicine.

Mercy is one of the largest health systems in the United States, a Catholic faith-based organisation with roots in the Sisters of Mercy and Catherine McAuley's first House of Mercy, founded in Dublin in 1827. The Sisters arrived in the United States in 1843 and established a presence in St. Louis in 1856. Today Mercy delivers acute care, specialty hospital, physician practice, outpatient and urgent care services to millions of patients across Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma.

The system comprises more than 50 acute care and specialty hospitals, over 1,000 physician practices and outpatient facilities, and 80 convenient care and urgent care locations. It employs more than 52,000 caregivers and more than 5,600 providers, including physicians and advanced practice professionals. Mercy reports providing more than $550 million in community benefits each year, and has been ranked among the top large health systems in the United States for patient experience, receiving the Excellence in Patient Experience Award from NRC Health.

Mercy applies technology to clinical and operational work across several domains: artificial intelligence, data science, predictive medicine, healthcare technology and innovation, health data analytics, and analytics relating to health equity and social determinants of health. The organisation works with partners such as Mayo Clinic and Microsoft to advance data science, AI and predictive medicine.
