Healthfirst is one of the largest not-for-profit health insurers in New York. It was founded by leading hospital systems in downstate New York with the stated purpose of allowing hospitals, health systems and physicians to put health outcomes ahead of profits and to serve members and communities first. The organisation has been in operation for more than 30 years and employs over 6,000 people.

The company serves more than 2 million members through a network of over 40,000 providers and more than 80 participating hospitals. Its plans span Medicaid, Medicare Advantage, long-term care, Qualified Health Plans sold on the marketplace and Essential Plans, providing coverage options across life stages. Its geographic footprint covers downstate New York, including New York City, Long Island, Westchester, Sullivan, Orange and Rockland counties.
